Makin' It Work Monday: Briana McDonald

By: Ashley Martin-Hanlon

Briana McDonald is thriving in her position with Turtle Island Child Care Centre as a early childhood education assistant. Through the Opportunities Fund for Persons with Disabilities wage subsidy program

Briana has been working at the Centre, a program of the St. John's Native Friendship Centre, since July 2017 while attending school to complete her Early Childhood Education certification. Briana has been a great addition to the Turtle Island team, assisting where needed to ensure that daily operations in the centre run effectively. She has gained valuable, relevant experience within her field of study and loves the opportunity to work with the children at Turtle Island. "Each staff person has helped me, whether with school or just in general. They are great! I think that this job has really benefitted me and has helped me come out of my shell. I feel welcomed and safe here, which really makes me happy." The Opportunities Fund staff are so proud of Briana's success and happy to have employers like Turtle Island Child Care Centre as partners in helping persons with disabilities obtain and maintain employment.
